Updated 2023 BMW Z4 G29 Arrives
The G29 Z4 roadster has been updated to include a fresh exterior design, enhanced equipment and a wider range of options.
For 20-years, the Z4 has been an important part of BMW’s open top story. The third generation went on sale in 2018 and over 55,000 have been sold worldwide to date, now comes this latest model – launching in November.
The Z4 has been updated with an exterior design tweak, an enhanced specification and a wider range of options. Fitting with BMW's current design language, the revised Z4 boasts a new kidney grille, now with a horizontal inner structure, reinforcing the impression of a wide front end. The three-section air intakes in the front apron are familiar from other M models, distinctive side-sill contouring and a rear apron, with bold edging at either side, also feature. The side air intakes – which guide air to the air curtains, reducing turbulence in the wheel arches – have been remodelled. Interesting, the M Sport trim level is now standard in the UK across the four-cylinder models. Sticking with the exterior, the 2023 BMW Z4 M40i G29 features exterior mirror caps in Cerium Grey and trapezoidal tailpipe trims for the exhaust system.
New additions to standard equipment include 18-inch alloy wheels in a double-spoke design, there's an option for a larger 19-inch design with a V-spoke design too, finished in Jet Black matt finish with diamond polished rims.
The range of exterior paint finishes for the Z4 has also been revised. As well as Thundernight metallic, Portimao Blue metallic and Skyscraper Grey metallic – available for the roadster for the first time, the selection also includes four others spanning a broad spectrum between white, black, red and grey – including BMW Individual paint finish Frozen Grey metallic. The fabric soft- top of the BMW Z4 will continue to be offered in Anthracite Silver effect as an alternative to the standard black. Also new to the options list are the M lights Shadow Line, which can be ordered in conjunction with the (also optional) Adaptive LED Headlights.
Three petrol engines are available for the new 2023 BMW Z4 G29. The four-cylinder engine powering the sDrive20i teams up, as standard, with the eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission ZF8HP. With a maximum output of 197hp and peak torque of 236 lb-ft, the 2023 BMW Z4 sDrive20i G29 sprints from rest to 62 mph in 6.6-seconds. Meanwhile, the top-of-the-range model, with the six- cylinder M TwinPower Turbo technology engine, is the M40i. The 3.0-litre 340hp unit develops peak torque of 369lb ft and powers the Z4 M40i G29 from 0 to 62mph in 4.5-seconds.
M Sport suspension, now part of the Z4's standard equipment, optimises driving dynamics with firmer damper and spring tuning. The 2023 BMW M40i G29 has adaptive M suspension with electronically controlled dampers, and M Sport brakes with a choice of blue- or red- callipers. The range-topping model is also fitted with an M Sport differential out back. Prices start at £42,305 for the 2023 BMW Z4 20i M Sport G29, rising to £53,720 for the M40i.
