Special edition 2023 F-Type celebrate 75 years of Jaguar sports cars

As we went to press, Jaguar announced details of a special edition F-Type to celebrate 75 years of Jaguar sports cars but tragically in the second line of the press release was the portentous phrase ‘final model year update’ signalling that 2023 will be the final year of production for the car – and therefore more chillingly, the final year for the line of Jaguar sports cars which began in 1948 with the launch of the XK120.

Final Curtain

Marketed as 2023 Jaguar F-Type 75 and 2023 Jaguar F-Type R 75 in either coupe or convertible form with both models powered by the supercharged V8, the special edition is a largely cosmetic exercise with other detail changes for the final production year including 20-inch rims on all models, grille badging changing from red to black and the R Dynamic badges now black and grey instead of red and green.

On the outside of the 75 edition you’ll find special gloss black wheels, front wing badges and optional Giola Green metallic paint, while the inside gets motifs on the console and door sills plus standard-fit Performance seats and a suede headliner. The F-Type range has also been simplified as it bows out, with just three models to be offered: The F-Type R Dynamic running the 300PS four-cylinder Ingenium engine with rear-wheel drive, the F-Type 75 with the 450PS V8 offered as either rear or all-wheel drive and the F-Type R 75 with the 575PS V8 and all-wheel drive.

Deliveries are set to begin from January 2023, with Jaguar describing it as “a fitting celebration of internal combustion engine performance before Jaguar becomes a pure electric modern luxury brand from 2025.” We can think of other ways to describe it, but either way if you want a new Jaguar sports car it’s clear that you need to act quickly.
