MG Astor sells out in minutes

There is little doubt that the centre of gravity of the modern MG range presently rests on the MG ZS and in the Indian market, where it is called the MG Astor, this also seems to be the case. MG Motor India rather quaintly refers to the taking of sales deposits as ‘bookings’ and, adding to the unquestionably slightly classy feel of this, the company tends to offer ‘banks’ of bookings as though they were short-lived opportunities to join an upmarket cruise.

The first offering for 2022 was released on October 21st 2021 and MG Motor India reported, with understandable delight, that this allocation was sold out within a matter of just minutes; a remarkable testament to the company’s well-placed marketing activities as much as a side effect of the worldwide constraint on new car sales owing to a shortage of ECU chips. It’s a problem that has been ongoing for a few months and is only expected to ease in the first quarter of the New year. MG Motor India’s President and Managing Director, Rajeev Chaba, was naturally delighted with the rapid sell-out but cautioned that further sales in 2022 rely on the restoration of ECU component supply.
