New 2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV X294

Pebble-like styling and powerful, range-maxing drive systems for Mercedes' mid-sized electric SUV

Mercedes has added an SUV variant of its EQE to its battery-electric range. More compact than the Saloon and slotting underneath the EQS model, the new SUV, with a drag coefficient of just 0.25Cd, comes in five flavours. The EQE350+ has one electric motor at the rear making it rear-wheel drive, has an output of 288bhp/416lb ft, and has a range of 298 to 366 miles (WLTP). The EQE350 4Matic is four-wheel drive (meaning one electric motor per axle), produces 288bhp/ 564lb ft and can cover between 285 and 347 miles on a single charge. The EQE500, meanwhile, is also four-wheel drive, outputs 402bhp/633lb ft, and has a range of between 286 and 340 miles. Electric energy consumption ranges from 19 to 22.7kWh per 62 miles (100km). Full details of the drive system were not available at the time of writing, but we do know the EQE SUV’s lithium-ion battery consists of 10 modules and was developed in-house. It’s also likely to have the EQE Saloon’s 90kWh battery capacity. An 11kW on-board charger is standard and a 22kW charger optional; maximum DC charging capacity is 170kW and the EQE will regain 137 miles of range in just seven minutes using this process.

Suspension comprises four-link front and a multi-link rear set up, with Airmatic air suspension capable of raising the ride height up to 30mm also available. Also on the options list is an MBUX Hyperscreen display for the front cabin area, while an efficiency-boosting heat pump is standard and uses waste heat from the electric drive system and battery to warm the interior.

Electric AMG

The Mercedes-AMG EQE SUV is the first vehicle of its type from Affalterbach. Fully variable all-wheel drive, AMG air suspension, rear-axle steering and AMG-specific roll stabilisation are all standard features.
