Nobody will argue against the lasting impact the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 team has made in the modern era of F1 racing. To mark the end of the 2022 season, when the team finished third in the constructor’s championship, Mercedes-AMG has announced an exclusive special run of the SL63 4Matic Roadster R232.

The limited-edition model is finished in model-specific two-tone paint (high-tech silver and obsidian black) with a star pattern and contrasting trim in Petronas colours; overall, it’s made to mimic last year’s W13 E Performance F1 car. Other cues from motor sport’s top tier are included in the AMG aerodynamics package, which adds larger elements in the front bumper, a larger rear diffuser and an optimised underbody to maximise downforce and minimise drag.

Along the SL63 Motorsport Collector’s Edition’s profile are side sills with a border finished in Petronas’ turquoise, as is the edge of the 10-spoke 21-inch wheels. Towards the rear, the dark three-pointed stars on the body turn lighter as the paint gradually gets darker. The electrically operated soft-top is also finished in black.

On top of an already exclusive package, the AMG Night Package and Night Package II add high-gloss black elements to the exterior and cabin, such as a gloss-black front splitter, side sills and mirror caps, black brake callipers, some detail in the diffuser, exhaust tailpipes and radiator, lettering on the body, a Mercedes-Benz badge on the rear, darkened headlamps, and bezels around the taillamps.

Options in the cabin include one of two upholstery finishes: black nappa leather and microfibre, with either red or yellow stitching. There’s also a heated carbon-fibre-rimmed steering wheel to match the carbonfibre trim throughout the cabin. As standard, Mercedes-AMG has thrown in the Burmeister 3D sound system, ambient lighting, and the MBUX Interior Assistant and Driving Assistant package.

To protect your SL63 from dust and scratches, it has a customised indoor car cover with a breathable outer skin – which Mercedes-AMG says is tear-resistant – and an inner lining of woven flannel.
