Rare Porsche 911 964 stars on the big screen

Porsche plays a leading role in the new Hollywood summer blockbuster Transformers: Rise of the Beasts

Movie fans watching the latest instalment of the Transformers film franchise should look out for the appearance of a Porsche 911. The latest movie, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, is set in the 1990s and features a Porsche 911 Carrera RS 3.8 964. It’s the car form that’s adopted by Mirage, one of the film’s main characters, as he battles for the forces of good alongside the leader of the Autobots, Optimus Prime.

“The 911 Carrera RS 3.8 is perfect not just because the film plays in 1994, but also because of the character traits of Mirage,” said Oliver Hoffmann, head of marketing communications at Porsche. “He’s a tough character with a good heart and a bit of a rebellious streak now and again.”

Porsche only built 55 Carrera RS 3.8 models, making it an exceptionally rare 911. To avoid damaging real cars, five replicas were constructed for filming, with the engine sound from a real RS 3.8 dubbed for authenticity.
