Semi-bespoke platform for new 2024 Kia EV5s

Kia has yet to confirm technical or powertrain details about the EV3 or EV4, although it has said they will use the same variant of the Hyundai Motor Group’s E-GMP platform as the EV5.

This means that both models will be capable of accepting multiple battery sizes and technologies, along with both single- and twin-motor powertrains. As a result, it’s likely that UK-bound versions will be offered in 215bhp front-wheel-drive and 302bhp twin-motor four-wheel-drive guises. But unlike the EV6 and EV9, the version of the platform used by the EV3, EV4 and EV5 runs at 400V and not 800V, which means it won’t be capable of ultrafast charging – a move made, in part, to help reduce costs. As for performance versions, Min Woo Park, head of Kia’s global product planning team, confirmed that the company still plans to offer a GT version of all its EV models in the future.

EV2 has a strong European focus; target price is £25k. EV3 interior makes widespread use of natural materials.
